Network Engineer, Backbone

About the team

Own the AS139648 backbone, global peering, and inline DDoS defense.

The Network team operates our own backbone under AS139648, with 822 Gbps of capacity across Seoul, Incheon, and Portland. We peer directly at major Asian IXs and connect directly to major Korean ISPs, delivering average latency under 5 ms. Hardware selection, circuit contract review, and routing policy decisions are all made within the team.

About the role

You own routing design and capacity expansion for the backbone: where and how large the next PoP should be, which peering and transit partners to select, and how traffic should be distributed across segments. Design and operations are not separated here, so you validate your decisions against traffic metrics and incident history and iterate from there.

What you'll do

• Design backbone routing policy and operate the BGP community scheme
• Negotiate IX and carrier peering; evaluate new transit circuits
• Design new PoP builds and size circuit and hardware requirements
• Traffic engineering and medium-to-long-term capacity planning
• Network incident response, root-cause analysis, and preventive measures
• Maintain configuration change history and network design documentation

What we're looking for

• 3+ years operating BGP at an ISP or large-scale network
• Experience designing and operating IPv4/IPv6 dual stack
• Hands-on experience with Juniper or Arista platforms
• Able to identify incident root causes from data and document the rationale for configuration changes

Nice to have

• Experience with IX peering negotiation or transit circuit contracts
• Experience automating network configuration with Python or similar
• Experience operating DDoS mitigation or traffic scrubbing systems
• Experience designing MPLS or VXLAN/EVPN overlay networks
• Able to negotiate with overseas carriers and IX contacts in English
